Attention to detail & prioritisation

Has a high attention to detail and can prioritise well, which was crucial during his PhD and his work as a Science Delivery Coordinator. For example, during his work at NCAS, Oleg:

- was tracking progress and challenges of dozens of instrument projects and was identifying priorities for work

- understood requirements and plans of individual stakeholders, managed their actions, identified & tracked risks and challenges

- has identified the need for gas stowage and provision capability and worked on planning it while keeping in mind operational requirements

- worked with the user community advisory group and led an activity on selecting instrument proposals for acceptance 

- while leading the planning committee, planned and delivered the 2026 Harmony in the Skies early careers symposium  which was a two-day event composed of talks, workshops, networking activities and other sessions. 

Advocacy & commitment to ideals

Recipient of the award for most-voted-for scientist in July 2025 for participation in the "I'm a Scientist" STEM outreach activity. To date, participated in 30 chats

 

Recipient of the 2025 NCAS Atmospheric Stars Award in recognition for outstanding contribution to NCAS. Nomination states that  "[Oleg's] commitment to accessible information in an engaging format makes him a great role model for effective communication"​

At NCAS he was responsible for informing the community & the public on instrument capability, which he did by delivering a number of talks & webinars aimed at scientific and non-scientific audiences, writing accessible texts and articles. An example of such outreach is also the following video, to which Oleg wrote a script and presented it in front of the camera.

Engaged in other NCAS outreach activities by filming videos and writing texts for British Science Week (example video), Mental Health Awareness Week (video link) & Neurodiversity Celebration Week.

During his role as a Science Delivery Coordinator, successfully gained an in-depth understanding of a wide selection of instruments & measurement techniques, aircraft safety and operational requirements

Taught himself video editing in DaVinci Resolve, including using more complex techniques such as tracking masks and minor animations

Taught himself how to work in Unity game engine and used it for interactive demonstrations during a symposium
